Chippenham Fen covers 117 Ha and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Ramsar site. It is part of the Fenland Special Area of Conservation: (SAC) for its short species rich fen meadows on calcareous peaty soils and its tall species rich calcareous fen community dominated by saw sedge.
Access to the reserve is by permit only, (you can download a permit from the Natural England Webpage) However there is a public footpath running directly through the reserve giving good views across the site.
The reserve is six km north of Newmarket between the village of Chippenham and the town of Fordham.
